Poor Battery Life
Product Uses:
touch screen, backlitght keyboard, battery life, win8
Review:
The laptop has good features, but short use. The battery was advertised as 5 hrs, but I average 3 hrs even with battery management features turned on. I think there are battery upgrade through Dell, but it should have been standard equipment. Having to plug in all the time makes it a no recommend.
Laptop screen does not have a latch and one hinge making noise and becoming loose.
Windows 8 is also another negative. It is fine for the touchscreen use, but not good for basic use. It is very confusing to find normal tasks.

Excellent machine but be very careful of battery life!
Product Uses:
screen, battery life, a little heavy, sales team!
Review:
I have the 15RSE and This must be one of the best machines I have used. It is very solid, feels as if would take the odd knock or two. The screen is a dream - I work under fluorescent lighting and there is very little if any reflection. I could not handle windows 8 so I have had it configured to run with a windows 7 front end and this is now much better for me. My only problem, and for me it's a big one - is that I was told by the rather pushy sales team to expect around 4 to 4.5 hours of battery life,( from a 6 cell) which was perfect for the type of conference work I have to do as a teacher. However I can only get a max of 2.5 hours then the machine almost instantly switches off. I have contacted Dell and they now inform me that this is the expected life from one charge and that there is no upgrade (9cell) on the battery available. Very disgruntled and disappointed.

Ok, but shoddy workmanship and battery life
Review:
My Studio XPS 13 was a replacement for a defective XPS m1330, and I had hopes that it would be more reliable. On reliability, I am sad to report that Dell has failed again. After a few weeks the Studio XPS 13 developed a very unsettling habit of booting itself from being completely turned off. Dell had to replace the motherboard, which seemed to have fixed it, though the problem has recently began to reappear indicating that there is something fundamentally flawed in the design of the firmware/BIOS.
Additionally, the chassis is bent leading to a tendency to wobble when on a hard surface.
Lastly, the battery life is terrible, absolutely terrible. The standard battery barely squeaks out 2.5 hours under normal use. And normal use also leads to a very unsettling heating of the base of the computer.
My one year warranty is nearly done, and I am deeply worried that things will continue to malfunction. This is a very pretty looking computer, but if you have any need for a reliable computer, stay away.

Great if you have a double life
Product Uses:

Review:
I travel quite a bit and game as much. Because of this, this laptop is great for me. If I'm gonna be stuck on a plane for 5 hours (and the inevitable layovers), I turn off the overclocking and discrete graphics and I have yet to have battery life as a problem.
Plus the unit is small so it doesn't eat luggage room. Not that heavy either. Plus, it was a fine idea to make it so easy to swap out SIM cards.
Then, when its time to game, I turn on all the speedy stuff and it runs games from Dragon Age to Battlefield 2 perfectly acceptable to surprisingly good.
Couple of small things, the cell modem wasn't seated properly when I first got it and a few other things so its not perfect. Plus Costa Rican tech support is iffy.
That said, its plenty good enough for me. If I lost it, I'd sob briefly, then go get another.

I have to say, I am usually a "bigger is better" kind of guy. Let me tell you, in this case, great things come in small packages. I love this computer. The quality of the HD display is phenomenal. It is light, thin and the keyboard is awesome to use. It has the media card reader which makes it convenient to use for ebay. I do everything with this that I would have done with my desktop which is now for sale. Quicken looks and runs great on it. Don't let the 1.3 pentium processor fool you, its fast! Keypad is like sliding your finger across silk-smooth and very responsive.

great battery life, can't wait for windows 7
Review:
pros: great battery, over 6 hours with wireless web browsing solid build good, loud speakers nice and thin, but not as light as I thought it would be fast enough for web browsing office suite (I'm a student), but it does have it hiccups with vista, I am sure it will be very smooth on windows 7
cons: shinny case shows a lot of fingerprints very short power cord, probably half as long as most laptops I have had before hdmi out works sometimes, hoping its just a vista issue
I went to a Macbook when they first came out, and I am for one someone that once you go Mac, you do go back. Many hardware issues (3 dead hard drives, bad top case, 2 dead dvd drives, flickering screen, 2 bad batteries...and a few more I can't remember, thank god I had a warranty) and pinwheel of death even after reformatting that seemed to baffle the geniuses. I bought a cheap $500 Acer laptop and fell in love with PC's again. Acer only lasted a year in a half before issues (flickering screen, battery died, power slot broke off inside computer, cheap plastic overall), but loved the compatibility and versatility it offered. This is my first Dell and I am hoping it will hold up better for at least 2 years with the increased price I paid. I would give it a 4.5 as it is now, I would like to update this review with more info when I get Windows 7 if it will let me. Hopefully Windows 7 can give this nice machine a 5 rating.

Great machine but very lowsy battery life.
Product Uses:
Connecting with Friends, Finances, school online study
Review:
This is a very nice, sleek, and powerful machine at a very reasonable price. I have my XPS 16 for more than 6 months now and I really love it but the complain I have is the battery. The fully charge battery only last me less than an hour so, I need to keep the compuer plug in while I'm on it which I dont really mine if I'm at home. The problem is that, I go out a lot to study and sometimes there is no available electric plug in the coffee shop or library. Since I have a WiMax access, I love to go to the park and study (im taking online classes) with my extra battery, the most is lasted me a little more than two hours at the park to study.
If anyone knows a better battery that is compatible with this machine let me know. I bought an extra battery at Dell thinking that maybe there is a problem with the battery that came with the computer but it's the same.

Fair battery life, but otherwise EXCELLENT
Product Uses:
Connecting with Friends, laziness, ability to be wireless!
Review:
This is, by far, the best computer I've ever purchased. I spent more on my desktop <1year ago, and the difference between the speed is remarkable! I've even benchmarked this computer, and the results are amazing! The 7200RPM HD in a laptop is a must.
The computer itself is esthetically pleasing, and while I thought the leather strap would be annoying, it really isn't. Since the rest of the laptop is so shiny, all fingerprints and smudges show up like mad. Having the leather portion to hold on to while you're putting the laptop in the included soft cloth bag that comes with it makes removing and replacing the laptop easy, but also smudge free ... at least temporarily.
The wireless is awesome, and it's just plain easy to use. It has good range and speed for LAN applications as well.
Finally I'm in love with my 64-bit OS!
The only complaints I have with this computer are: 1. The battery life is only 2.25 hours. While this is ample time to surf and get a few things done, it'd be nice to have a laptop that was about twice that - especially if you wanted to get with friend(s) to write a paper (not an issue with me, but just something to keep in mind). Please note this 2.25 hours is with wireless on and occasional videos, but mostly surfing online. Also to note is that while some laptops I've had in the past (Gateway, HP) this 2.25 hours that Vista shows is a true 2.25 hours. It seems to last forever!
2. The smudges are annoying, but nothing to cry home about.
3. 2 USB ports is kind of weak.
4. While I'm sure not all will have this, I def. have a burnt out pixel, from factory, and it's not even in a corner -- it's right in the middle of the screen :(

Review:
To begin with, mt home computer is a dell from 2003 and we were having some software issues with it. Too much had been loaded on the computer and it was running slower and slower. My wifes' programing was on it and it was just frustrating for her to use the dell. She had complained a few times about how slow it was running, and she was at the end of her rope. She didn't know that I had received a special from dell on the Mini 10. So I read all the reviews and even looked at a couple of E-books at WallMart. She told me that it would be nice to have her own little computer that she could use around the house. Well when the deal came through from Dell, I thought about how much she would love having her own little POWER HOUSE of a computer, so I purchased it and just gave it to her as a love gift. WOW...! Glad I DID...Her little computer has come in quite handy. She has her own computer and it does more than she could ever wanted. It has the built in camera, and it has the ability to do web-cam, so now she can see her grand-daughter from 5 States away, and can make the birthday cards, and runs the food reciepes, and well.... it does the job and is easy to use. It is the little power-house.... I see it as, A Happy Wife, A Happy Home..... I am so glad she is happy..... Supper never tasted better....!
Thanks DELL..... Happy Husband....
Cons. Well I waited too long to buy this little jewell. The price was Ok, and the service is "Spot-On".

Review:
Just received my 580. Top of the line i5, 1TB and 24" HD Monitor.
Pros: Fast and Quiet. Lots of room to grown.
Cons: 1) This is NOT an inexpensive machine, and the keyboard and mouse supplied is JUNK.
At this price point, this is inexcusable.
The only part of a computer you actually interact with, and this thing is a joke. It has that $10 keyboard sound and feel.
I even talked to my sales agent about my concern because I couldn't find anywhere on the site that went into details on keyboards or mice so I could really understand what to expect. A real shortcoming of the Dell site. Considering online is their primary sales medium, you would think they would have that together.
2) Monitor - 24" HD. Works GREAT. But...NO height adjustment, not a big deal, but seems odd.
However, supplied with a VGA Cable??? Front and centre on the instructions, "For best results, use an HDMI or DVI cable.
WHY NOT JUST SUPPLY THE BEST CABLE IN THE FIRST PLACE???
Come on Dell, I expect more from you !!!

Serious gaming and ample battery life? You bet!
Product Uses:
Gaming, School, work
Review:
I've run the laptop gamut, from the basic Asus Eee PC series netbooks to the nuclear-powered Falcon Northwest desktop-replacement, but I've never come across a laptop that could both handle graphic-intensive games and get seven hours of battery life when needed... until now.
Enter the Alienware m11x. The m11x is small, so I can easily carry it around campus, and use it in a cramped lecture hall without it hitting those next to me. It can handle most graphic-intensive games at a solid 30 FPS or higher. And it can pull out seven hours of battery life if I'm in class taking notes, with the graphics card switched off. If you want portability, gaming, and battery life, all in one unit, at a surprisingly low price, the m11x may be for you.
My m11x specs: Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3 GHz (overclocked to 1.7 GHz) 8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM at 800 MHz 500 GB SATA II 7,200 RPM hard drive Maunaully-switchable graphics (no Nvidia Optimus)
Here are five nit-picks of mine:
Build-quality: For the most part, the m11x feels very solid, and the metal hood gives the m11x an high-quality feel. The problem lies in the poorly-designed hinges. The hinges have creaked when I opened the screen ever since purchase. After a couple months of heavy use, one hinge started popping out of place when I closed the screen. Rough handling is not to blame for this, for I take excellent care of my m11x, and always open / close the screen carefully. This is by no means a deal-breaker, but the hinges need to be redesigned. Also, the two strips that run along the left and right sides of the m11x do not attach perfectly to the top plate.
Screen: Two nit-picks here. First, the viewing angle could be better; any angle from which I view the screen will slightly wash out either the top or bottom of the screen, depending on the angle. Second, a 1080i screen resolution option would be nice for those like me who prefer higher pixel densities.
Processor: The processor always seems to be the bottleneck when gaming. I'm not sure how the i5 and i7 versions perform, but the Core 2 Duo SU7300 is somewhat underpowered considering the powerful graphics card.
Speakers: The speakers are impressive in both their overall sound quality and loudness. However, the sound has a strange muffled quality to it.
Keyboard: First off, the keyboard lighting effects are awesome. The backlight, for the most part, is distributed evenly amongst the keys, and is attractively bright. The keys themselves have a nice hard-rubber feel to them, but are a little too thin. After 5 months of typing on the m11x, I still tend to peck at keys that are next to the ones I wanted to hit.
Conclusion: Despite my few gripes, I couldn't be more impressed with the Alienware m11x. It's the best laptop purchase I have ever made, and I would recommend it to any person who wants portability, modern gaming capability, and ample battery life all in one package.

Superb laptop, however a poor battery life.
Product Uses:
heavy multi-use application use, adobe suite, media
Review:
If I could, I would give this laptop 4.5 stars. It has everything required to name a few; backlit keyboard, HDMI, Webcam & micrphone built in, and 2 USB ports (why anyone needs more than 2 is beyond me)...but also a reasonably poor battery life. Dell only offer the 9 volt batteries as standard for a reason... You would only get one hour on a 6 volt. On the 9 volt that comes with this laptop, you will get between 90 and 150 minutes which is pretty poor compared to my previous laptop getting about 5 hours (Dell Inspiron). The other problem is the laptop seemed to overheat a lot, even if it was on a desk and could 'breathe' underneath. As a result of the heat, the laptop does have sufficient fans (about 5 different speeds) but often goes on the highest speed which turns out to be rather noisy. To rectify the problem I bought a laptop cooling pad which you put underneath the laptop and it obviously cools the laptop resulting in a much quieter laptop. For £15, it is definitely worth it and makes the keyboard facing me at a higher angle which is better personally.
Other then that, the laptop is speedy and the 1920 X 1032 resolution is a change for the best for myself coming from a 1280 x 800 screen - at first you will see such a big difference that it looks strange but after getting use to it, you will undrstand that it is a change for the best!
This laptop is for the person who wants a laptop as oppose to a Desktop in the sense that it is to go on the desk and it's not for travel. Also for the person who wants a speedy laptop and can afford to pay the extra money for this laptop. This laptop is certainly not for anyone who is looking for a laptop with portibility that wants to take this laptop with them on travel - the laptop is quite heavy and bulky.
Overall, it is a good buy and I am pleased with the laptop.

Uni proof, life proof...Kitten proof!

Review:
Specs: Lunar Shadow Grey Case(looks SO much better!) 7200RPM HD 4GB RAM i5 Processor
I've had my M11x 3months now, and I absolutely adore it. It's light enough to take everywhere, powerful enough to make everything easy to do,And kitten proof. My darling kitten decided that the keyboard was the place to be, and has since tried to eat the screen, the keys, jumped on it from across the room...All without a single scratch. When she went for the H-key, it popped smoothly back in without a hint of resistance. It's strong enough to take flying furballs without a flinch. Onto more serious matters... The battery life is great, although I tend to have the screen quite bright which decreases the time away from the powerpoint.dropping to 20% maxes it. Speaking of the screen, the brightness is excellent, and you can sort-of see it outside. I've combated this by adding a screen protector. The display itself is excellent and flawless in both HD and SD playback. Some minor issues: If you unplug with the screen closed, and then re-plug, there is a chance the screen will conk out on you. Not much of an issue, and making sure the screen's slightly open when you're moving the on-machine avoids it. I also had a screw come loose from the W-LAN card, and migrate into my fan (Which I don't find to be loud). Dell was here within 48hours, and the screw was retrieved. One thing I found out about the M11X from this tiny incident is that this machine is designed to be upgraded and serviced, unlike other machines *coughmac* which you'd never be able to fix in a billion years. As to people who complain about the integrated battery...The thing is a blasted Lithium-ion BOMB! Its sheer size is such that carrying the powerpack (which puts the one from my previous NB100 to shame) is around half the weight of a secondary battery, although the plug into the back of the machine could've been better placed, or used an L-joint. Some people have complained about the heat it can put out. As someone who doesn't use desks, and continuously has it on my lap, it is warm, but as long as you lift it enough so that the intake can get air, it never reaches extreme temps(If you block the fan, it's a slightly different matter...) The lighting system is beyond phenomenal. Getting codes in is a breeze (Coz you can SEE the keyboard-which is beyond a dream to type on, even for 5000word assignments due the next day!), the lighting is easy to configure (Mine cycles right through the rainbow!)
If you're after a computer which you can take anywhere, you'd be stupid to go for anything else. It's perfect!
