My M17x is One Year Old and has not let me down

Product Uses:
engineering, entertainment

Review:
I wrote a review last year about how impressed I was with the power of this laptop, but I only owned it a month.

It's been a year now and I thought I'd write a follow up.

I am a Mechanical Engineer/Tool Designer that has to travel alot and uses heavy resource stealing CAD software and so far this Beast of a Laptop just laugh's at me when I push her to the limit.

I've taken my Black Beauty all over the World and have worked in horrible enviroments, but my trusty M17x has never let me down.

In one year, I think my Black Beauty has been turned off for a total of 50 hours, meaning I never turn her off unless I have to.

I use her for work and entertainment. As a matter of fact, I'm writing this review from Mexico after just watching a movie.

The surround sound is amazing for a Laptop.

Before I sign out, I have to say my customers always give me compliments when they see my Black Beauty. Many of them know about Alienware and wish they're company would purchase them as opposed to they're shoddy Laptops they're stuck with.

Bottom line, Would I recommend this Product?

OH YEAH.

Thanks Alienware, best purchase I ever made.

Amazing laptop

Product Uses:
it school work, Gaming

Review:
I must admit that after reading alot of reviews about the M17X R3 I was really scared about purchasing it. There were alot of posts of how the laptop was broke and wasnt configured right and had terrible customer support from Dell, I made the choice and bought it anyway.

On that note I must say that they were completely wrong, this laptop is amazing. It was configured exactly the way I requested and didnt even have any junk pre-installed software. An hour after I signed for my laptop a Dell customer support representitive called me and asked if everything on my order was correct and if I was having any problems. I told him so far everything is fine but im still updating and installing programs. He said he was glad to hear it and will contact me tomorrow to see if anything was wrong. He did and I told him everything was working perfectly.

The delivery time was bad (took a month to get it to me) but that wasnt a big deal, dell gave me next day shipping for free because of the delay.

I use this laptop mainly for school in IT and it requires me to run alot of virtual machines at the same time and this laptop can run 5, thats the most I have needed to use, and it did not slow down the machine at all (31% CPU usage was the highest of the 4 cores). I could even run crysis 2 on medium settings in the background with high FPS (I only got the nvidia 560m card, I know I know but I will upgrade it soon lol).

The really amazing part that I love about this laptop is how easy it is to upgrade the components, every peice of hardware is easily accessible and well placed, and can be upgraded with minimal computer knowledge.

I would recommend this laptop to any of my friends/family.

Not for people who don't know software

Product Uses:
playing world of warcraft

Review:
Order # 295797864 a Studio 17 (1531.95 CAD), Order # 301106407 an Allienware M17X (4204.20 CAD) and Order # 339481400 an Alienware M15X (2366.70 CAD).Order # 293617031 an Alienware M17X (2965.20 CAD).Personally i had the most expensive of our purchases and it was the most frustrating experience because since i got it it didn't work, i was talking with a customer service person and they sent a guy from other company to change the mother board or something like that. I was very upset even after the laptop finally started because of many other issues. First, windows explorer kept freezing and working slow. I had a preorder installation of World of Warcraft game and it didn't work also. I kept my patience and I was trying to solve the problem, I also call the Dell support technician and i told him that my game doesn't work and he told me that Alienware laptops are not good for playing games, even if my order was based on that idea, to play WoW without any graphic or other issues. This way I found that the laptop graphic card has 2 card, not as I did understand during my order to be one card. I am not so familiar with the caracteristics of a laptop, but i was thinking if i take the best options found at that time it will be ok, but the guy from Dell told me it is a bad configuration. I am not sure why I was still hopping this laptop will be good and also we ordered 2 more laptops from Dell after all my frustrations. The game doesn't work well even now, i still get the blue screen during the play because the graphic card doesn't work properly and if i am trying to update it my laptop doesn't work at all and i have to go back to the old version of it. This is the same for all our Alienware laptops we have. It is very frustrating and i am repeting that because i am really upset how people can sell expensive laptops without any advices. I have more than a basic knowledge in software, but i am not an expert to fix all our laptops issues and in my opinion these isssues shouldn't appear. For example, i had to do a recover image for the M15X Alienware and i was very surprised how complicated it was. For sure a basic knowledge about computers wouldn't help to do it. The most bothering problem for our laptop is updating the graphic cards and also the Bios. If i am doing it the laptop wouldn't work. All the time whenever the power cord is not plugged it happens that in Bios the integrated graphic card is going to be enabled and WoW is crashing my laptop if I am not going to check in Bios and enable the other card. Do you think a basic knowledge about computers would help? I am very sorry we spent that much on laptops issues. In conclusion, we paid 11068.05 CAD for our laptops, only to be frustrated using them and waste our time fixing issues, getting nervous everytime searching for solutions.
