Review:
I ordered this mini for my sister, she wanted a Pink netbook and with Christmas coming up I thought what a great gift.
It arrived in about 7-9 days after ordering and was packed in a nice Dell box with the options I had asked for. After charging the unit up for a while I turned it on and was pleasantly surprised to see the Windows 7 install had been customised for my region, plus the machine had just the right amount of software built-in to get you started with what you need without bogging the machine down too much. I also like the power supply, it's all one piece and is more convenient for this style of product. I also liked that I was able to option up the purchase to include a physical copy of the operating system and drivers on DVD/CD, which came in the box.
I would certainly recommend this product.

Disappointly sluggish unless warranty is voided

Product Uses:
web browsing, streaming video, instant messaging, facebook games, skype

Review:
I bought the netbook because at the time there was an offer and the price was right, and I needed a small companion machine- anything larger than 10.1 inches is a no-go. Turns out to be a mistake. The paltry 1GB of RAM is barely enough for Windows 7 (for the record, booting up into the desktop leaves only 32MB of RAM free). Firing up my Instant Messaging program drains off the remaining memory, and starting a browser after that is the beginning of my woes. Opening two tabs in the browser bring things to a crawl- the hard disk starts thrashing and the system lags between each click. Playing a Facebook game? God be with you- Flash games are barely playable.

And then I have to use Nokia OVI Suite when on the road because I use my cellphone as a wireless modem - that's one more programming adding to the RAM load (a program that's quite a memory hog, I must add).

I tried living with that for a month, but eventually had enough and took the risk to void the warranty and add more RAM, because there was no offer to upgrade the RAM to the maximum 2GB from factory for some reason, or I would have bought a 2GB unit. The netbook was picky as heck in that regards too- the only module that worked was one where I had bought from a particular online retailer in the US and have it shipped all the way to Malaysia. But after said upgrade, things were much smoother and Facebook games are now surprisingly playable instead of just barely playable.

Would I recommend this netbook? Only if Dell starts offering an option to have it upgraded to 2GB of RAM from factory. 1GB of RAM with Windows 7 is not really feasible and borders on frustrating.

Review:
bought the mini through a rewards program in Nov 09 for my son for Christmas. He loved it. Fourteen months later, hard drive crashes. No help from Dell. This is my last Dell.
