Review:
I am perfectly happy with the 660 and the 23" monitor. The monitor is excellent and so is the 660. I have had no problems with either but windows 8 is too unstable. There is always some sought of problem that requires my attention. Right now I can't make a restore point (error 0x8004231f) and after trying many corrections the problems continues. Why can't Microsoft come up with software that works!!!! If it wasn't for the software I would give 5 stars across the board.

Hardware Seems OK - Bad/Incomplete Software Image
Product Uses:
good hardware build, poor startup software image and guidance
Review:
The built quality on the hardware on seems fine, but I haven't done much on it because of two lengthy evenings with tech support.
After the basic startup on establishing a Windows password for the machine and entering my email address for McAfee and LoJack there was absolutely no further guidance.
The machine was ordered with Office 2013 and I received a key for Office 2013. However, the image had office 2010 installed and when you used you key, it just told you had an "invalid key" The first evening with tech support was spent rectifying his issue. Note the Tech that evening was very competent and stayed with me the whole time.
I then tried to download the digital download enabled software (note, I would not have know how to do this as there was no prompt during startup to do so. The tech the first night mentioned where I needed to go).
I was never able to get the 15 month's McAfee that came with my machine so I used an existing license I already had available to cover this hole in the built process.
What's still missing, well I never got the PC Mover Home application and the CyberLink Media Suite Essentials DVD. The Tech the second night promised I would receive an email with this information within 1 to 2 business days. Deadline passed, no email.
Lastly I spent the second night on line with tech support trying to download correctly the LoJack 4.0 for Laptops. The download wasn't working properly, so the tech went to the Absolute Software site and downloaded and installed Absolute Date Protection (over my objection that that was not he right application) and told me I got what I got (I was then prompted to "pay" $89.95 for the LoJack application. After considerable insistence I was able to get a tech supervisor to review what had been done, and within a 10 minutes properly install LoJack. However, I wasted 3 hours that evening.
Bottom line to date, about 5 hours into this process and my laptop configuration still has a few holes. Dell needs to relook it's software imaging/quality control process. My previous Dell laptop purchase had a tedious but through startup process. This setup just left you to your own devices. If you didn't pay attention, you lose.

Buyer beware, software failure out of the box
Review:
My wife was in need of a new laptop for school. I have been a faithful Dell user for years. I gravitated towards the Studio 17 because of the solid features that you get for the price. We purchased the laptop from our local Best Buy and owned it for approximately 30 minutes. After applying the Trend Micro and Windows updates for the first time, the laptop went into a blue screen loop. I later found while searching the issue on the Internet that this is not an isolated incident. The staff at our local Best Buy were very apologetic and great to work with. They took the laptop back without question as this wasn't the first one they ran into. One of the Managers went so far as to have the remaining stock removed from the floor so that they could be evaluated by the Geek Squad staff. Dell makes some nice laptops, just not this particular model. Do your homework before considering a purchase of this laptop. We are now looking into the Studio XPS 16 as well as laptops from the competition.

Hardware Review - Not Software
Review:
I have read WAY too many of these reviews talking about "Internet Explorer windows popping up", "poor color", etc. Most of these issues are software (*read VISTA*) related issues. I put XP on this machine within a few days of getting it - I am not a fan of Vista at all. With XP this machine is great. The only "real" hardware issue is that many keys on the keyboard stopped working. My finger first pointed at software, but after some tests I found it to be the keyboard itself (also found posts of others having the same issue). Dell was happy to send me a replacement. The DVD drive does tend to grab the disc when it is ejected as well - hit eject, the disc slides out, but is tough to remove. Grabbing the disc as it is coming out and continuing it's motion smothly solves the problem with no hassle. I don't like touchpads so the Bluetooth mouse was a must. I wish it had a CF card reader, but you can't have everything. The hardware is great for the price. People need to uderstand that the Studio line is not the high-end series. You get what you pay for? I recommend those having problems try XP on it for a while and see how they feel.

Review:
PROS: I like the colour.
CONS: If you enjoy DELL software that has little purpose (or bogs down your system) ... this is for you. Don't think you can simply "remove" your unwanted DELL software either ... your system will "freeze up" or notify you that "files are now missing". What's extremely frustrating is, by answering "NO" to whether or not you want the DELL software during the ordering procedure ... you'd expect "NOT" to have this software "installed" ... not in my case --- VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Preloaded Software Problems
Product Uses:
basic operations
Review:
I had already purchased two Dell desktops recently and had a very positive experience with each of them, including an Inspiron 580. I bought this third one to keep at a vacation home. When it arrived, I worked to set it up the same as I had with the other two. One of the first steps is to Create System Recovery Media. I inserted a DVD-R as directed (the DVD-R was from the same group I had used to create System recovery media for my other two Dell computers within the month before purchasing this one). Part way through the creation process, the computer told me there was a problem with the DVD-R so I put in another one and got the same message after a while. I tried one more time, getting the same message. Thinking there was a problem with the discs, I bought entirely new DVD-R discs and tried a 4th time. Again it said there was a problem. I called tech support. They helped me check the DVD drive and determine it was ok, so it was apparently a problem with the Dell software for creating the recovery media. They sent me a disc with the system recovery files on it. I was out 4 DVD-Rs that were ruined before this got figured out.
The second problem was with McAfee protection. I bought 3 years of McAfee, but after a week, I got a notice that my McAfee coverage would expire in 30 DAYS! I had to talk to Dell tech support then McAfee tech support to get that fixed. I could never figure out if the problem originated with Dell or McAfee.
Other than these two issues, the computer has worked fine.

Gaming, web surfing, watching videos, e-mail
Review:
I have had good experience with Alienware, this being my 3rd. I payed top dollar for the best components and I am not disappointed. I use the computer for gaming and it has run top notch.
The only slight complaint is that I went straight to the website to download any of the latest drivers. The support site for updated drivers is confusing. Even though you get a special number that relates to your purchase, there are many updates that might not apply to your computer. There is no way to tell easily which have been installed or not. Would be nice if they could do a similar update feature as microsoft that would search your computer and let you decide which driver to update.
Support has improved since Dell has taken over Alienware. One of the updates I installed was a Beta and it did cause some issues with the video card. I did not realize they would send a technician to my house if it could not be done over the phone. Very nice improvement.
Overall, for gaming, a great computer, other than a couple inconveniences. Fast, beautiful and causes jealousy in others ;)

Product Uses:

Review:
I replaced a 3 year old iPhone with the streak.
Hardware: The hardware part of the streak is very good. No major complaints. But, don't expect much from the camera.
Pros: Build Quality, screen display, front facing camera, larger form factor, app performance
Cons: Rear Camera, power connector, speaker, touch screen can be finicky. USB operation is a bit quirky.
Software: Unlike the hardware side this has some warts
Pros: Open Android philosophy, widgets, multiple desktops, integration with google (when it works), very customizable.
Cons: Standard Audio/Video apps kinda suck, sync issues for heavy google users, no multi-touch in 1.6, standard android apps leave a lot to be desired. Quantity over quality when it comes to apps.
I have to say I am pretty happy with the device, but not as happy as I could be. On the bright side I think everything that bugs me about this device can and will be fixed with future OS upgrades. It has proved to be a more than adequate replacement for my iPhone and I don't see myself yearning to switch back anytime soon.

Good hardware, immature software (not for noobs)
Review:
This is more a reflection of the Android ecosystem than the hardware itself, but since you can only buy this as a complete system, here it goes:
The hardware is well made. The big screen is awesome, but also ridiculous as a phone. Think of it as a tablet with phone function. Cargo pants, not skinny jeans.
My first problem is with security. I have a very secure password to my wifi router (63 random ASCII characters), there was no obvious way to put that on the phone (same problem with all smartphones). Not all Android software support copy and paste, so I had to try different ones that came with this system.
I am a noob to touch screen phones, so I am not sure if it is me or touch screens in general, but the virtual keyboard's sensitivity seems inconsistent. I can't tell when I have touch and held a key too long, or even if I touched the right key.
Some of the software that comes with it can crash with no explanation (e.g. Zinio, and one of the free games from the market place).
In sum, I can't give this as a gift to anyone who hasn't used a smartphone before.

Yes, yet another unhappy customer that was promised a 2.2 update and have yet to receive it.
Pros: Big Screen (the main reason I purchased it). I do a fair amount of web browsing on my phone and grew tired of the standard small screens on most smartphones.
Cons: No physical keyboard. Software keyboard was alot smaller than I thought it would be for such a big screen. If we had 2.2, maybe swype would help.
If Dell would simply give us a firm release date, I could stop wasting time looking for the update... Horrible bait and switch Dell !

There is far too much evaluation software on this machine, especially the games. Also, the preinstalled McAfee software was a pain. It blocked the ports to my home network, delete files that it claimed were spyware, which they were not. Also, much of Dell’s own software, and configuration, is not necessary. Dell should offer the customer a machine with just the operating system and device drivers installed. Everything else can come included on a CD giving the owner the option of installing the software or not.

First off I have to say that the HARDWARE is great. The phone is very responsive, the touch screen is a step up from my previous smart phone (a HTC Touch Pro 2). The display is very good. Call quality is good.
Now for the not so good. I was going to use this for my job to keep track of meetings and email. Unfortunatly this phone won't sync with Outlook 2007 without going through unreasonable steps. I do like the simplicity of the WP7 interface.
If your into social networking, streaming media, and the like and DON'T want an iPhone this probably is just right for you. If you want to use this for business purposes I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Review:
The computer itself works as advertised, though to cooling system (specifically the thermal paste) is sub-standard and the laptop will commonly run too hot without some type of external cooling support (e.g., raised platform with fans). My biggest complaint (and it's a big one) is that the Alienware software that controls the themes on the laptop utilizes a piece of software called WindowBlinds which crashes Internet Explorer 9/Firefox 4 randomly and also screws up the display of those web browsers. Yes, I'm aware that Chrome is a great browser, however many sites are still optimized for Explorer/Firefox that don't work correctly on Chrome. Dell's level of service in regards to helping me correct a piece of software, that Dell installed, consisted of "you don't have the additional software warranty, go away". The level of support on this issues was so poor that I'll not be buying a Dell product again. I gave the laptop 2 stars because it does work, however any company that installs custom software on their machines and then doesn't support said software is one that I will avoid in the future.

I was very upset even after the laptop finally started because of many other issues. First, windows explorer kept freezing and working slow. I had a preorder installation of World of Warcraft game and it didn't work also. I kept my patience and I was trying to solve the problem, I also call the Dell support technician and i told him that my game doesn't work and he told me that Alienware laptops are not good for playing games, even if my order was based on that idea, to play WoW without any graphic or other issues. This way I found that the laptop graphic card has 2 card, not as I did understand during my order to be one card. I am not so familiar with the caracteristics of a laptop, but i was thinking if i take the best options found at that time it will be ok, but the guy from Dell told me it is a bad configuration. I am not sure why I was still hopping this laptop will be good and also we ordered 2 more laptops from Dell after all my frustrations. The game doesn't work well even now, i still get the blue screen during the play because the graphic card doesn't work properly and if i am trying to update it my laptop doesn't work at all and i have to go back to the old version of it. This is the same for all our Alienware laptops we have. It is very frustrating and i am repeting that because i am really upset how people can sell expensive laptops without any advices. I have more than a basic knowledge in software, but i am not an expert to fix all our laptops issues and in my opinion these isssues shouldn't appear. For example, i had to do a recover image for the M15X Alienware and i was very surprised how complicated it was. For sure a basic knowledge about computers wouldn't help to do it. The most bothering problem for our laptop is updating the graphic cards and also the Bios. If i am doing it the laptop wouldn't work. All the time whenever the power cord is not plugged it happens that in Bios the integrated graphic card is going to be enabled and WoW is crashing my laptop if I am not going to check in Bios and enable the other card. Do you think a basic knowledge about computers would help? I am very sorry we spent that much on laptops issues. In conclusion, we paid 11068.05 CAD for our laptops, only to be frustrated using them and waste our time fixing issues, getting nervous everytime searching for solutions.
