Excellent compact desktop with high performance

Product Uses:
software development, video editing and photo editing, research using the internet, audio editing

Review:
This is an excellent high performance desktop. The Intel i7 quad processor with hyperthreading is very fast, but it doesn't need the huge heat sinks that older quad processor chips required. The case itself is not intended for rapid hardware changes - it uses screws to hold components in place, and it's a tight fit for my fingers to make changes such as pushing in extra SATA cables. There is only 1 open slot (perhaps you could add a modem?). You can add a second hard disk and a second DVD/CD drive, but that's it. I've expanded the disk storage beyond this by adding eSATA and USB drives (eSATA is about twice as fast as USB on this machine). I like the power button on top along with two USB ports and mic and headphone jacks. The ATI graphics card is powerful enough for the engineering work I do (though I would have prefered an nVidia card in order to use their CUDA library). With 2 disk drives you could reconfigure the machine for RAID, but I haven't wanted to try this. At the moment I have about 7 Tbyte of storage on this machine (2 internal drives, 4 external) with 2 DVD drives, and it is very stable so I am very happy.

I Love It So Much, I Bought The Company

Product Uses:

Review:
I have owned Dell Computers for about 10 years, and this is my third laptop. I am disabled and going to school over the internet. I am an aspiring photographer, and that is what I am studying in school. I needed a "Laptop that would replace a desktop". The Studio XPS16 is reliable and secure enough with it's Windows 7 operating system and McAfee Security Suite, that I could attend school over the internet and get my assignments to my instructors fast and worry free. The Facial Recognition is VERY COOL...AND it prevents anyone but me from logging on to my laptop, and you can use it to store user names and passwords for your facorite websites too. I also needed something that was powerfull enough to run film scanners, lightscribe drives, and a number of other high powered periferals. Again, The Studio XPS16 fulfilled all of my needs. With it's HDMI, 2 USB Ports, USB eSATA Port and Card Reader, I can download all of my photographs very quickly, I can run all of my periferals, and create a fast backup of my entire system with an external Hard Drive connected to the eSATA port. Drive space was also very importrant to me. RAW picture files are very large, and photographers rarely like to delete a photo...so they add up quickly, and so does the space they take up. The Studio XPS16, the perfect choice here as well. The 500GB Hard drive with "Freefall Sensor" allows my plenty of space to store all of my photographs and run all of my very large programs. Sometimes, I take my laptop outside with me on my wheelchair. The 'Freefall Sensor" gives me the peice of mind, that if it falls off of my lap, my data will be okay. It has 8BG of RAM, so it can run the biggest, most RAM intenstve programs with ease.
Overall, I must say, that this is the best laptop/notebook computer that I ahve ever owned. I would recommend the Studio XPS16 to anyone looking for a quailty, high end laptop at a very affordable price, to but one of these. I was so happy with this, MY THIRD LAPTOP PURCHASE, and FIFTH MAJOR DELL PURCHASE OVERALL...That I bought 100 shares of DELL company stock to add to my portfolio.

Great Deal

Product Uses:

Review:
I have had this laptop for about 2 weeks now. I can honestly say that I am very pleased with the laptop. I got the 4GB of DDR3 RAM, the Intel i3, and the 1GB ATI video card. The laptop runs very well. Running a virtual machine and doing work in the host OS is a breeze. Linux runs quite well. The laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 starts in about 12 seconds (thats a rough guess). The reason I give it 4 stars and not 5, is that the screen has a bit of horizontal flex and the screen(when closed) can be pressed down quite a lot.. This worries me about how well the screen will hold up to being in a bag with some school books or other items. The price was great though, as I got a very nice student discount.

Dell Inspiron 560 Review - excellent

Product Uses:

Review:
Sleek black design, fast delivery, great options if you want to expand on the baseline system. Plenty of USB ports, HDMI output as well as the usual periphal ports. What I liked was I had a wireless keyboard and mouse and it recognised them immediately and didn't need to upload any device drivers. The pre-loaded Windows 7 is an excellent product and, even better, the addition of Word and Excel has saved a fortune in buying the full Office product. Fast and intuitive, I have not had to buy any additional software because everything the average user needs is already loaded including security software. I love Windows 7 network map which shows all of the divices detected on my network including a wireless printer plus adding devices is easy. Couldn't be more pleased - I now have 3 DELL desktops and 2 DELL laptops and they are all excellent. Great products.

Good product

Review:
Very happy with this computer. I bought my first Dell 9 years ago and it has worked fine since the day I plugged it in. Problem with the old computer was that the registry is so full of garbage that it was unreliable. I know just format and start over. That is exactly what I am going to do with the old Dell computer and it will be my back up. I just didn't have the down time available.

The new Inspiron is much much lighter in weight than my first Dell. Not as much beef in the construction and to open it it you need to have a screwdriver to take the case off. I really liked the old Dell design of "lifting the hood" to get in there for cleaning etc.

The installation was flawless and it is working just as well as my old one did when it was new.

I am very happy overall with this purchase and would recommend it to other people.

The new keyboard that came with it works just fine but it is a little smaller and my arthritic fingers are just getting used to it.

I have never done a review like this but felt compelled to by the ease of installation (not one call for support) and the quality of the product (except for the key board).

Dell Outlet Purchases

Product Uses:
Travel, desktop replacement, light-duty gaming

Review:
This is the 2nd Inspiron 1750 I've purchased and probably the 4th or 5th PC I've purchased from the Dell Outlet (a couple of Dell Mini laptops, one desktop, one Laser printer). Each time, the product is delivered quickly and the 'to my door' price is outstanding. This 1750 is for home use, nothing too extraordinary, and it fits the bill just fine for that. With 17.3" screens, and the ability to connect an external monitor (or monitors), there's just not much of a reason for buying a desktop any longer, except for extreme gaming purposes. Overall - good product at a great price, delivered to my door in under a week each time.

I've had the Studio XPS 13 up and running for less than a month now. However, prior to using it I had to install a newer BIOS version and had to have Tech Support replace mother board and a few other items. I'm hoping it doesn't start heating up again....

With their reliability and fast efficient service Dell has made my shopping for a computer system almost a no-brainer. Having worked in the computer field for almost 25 years, and certified on almost a dozen systems, I have come to respect Dell's attention to quality and service. Although I still 'shop' the market, it seems that I always end up buying Dell. As long as they keep their attention on the customer I wll most likely remain a loyal Dell consumer.

Pros
Neat machine.
Works well.
Reasonably quick.
Cons
Poor documentation, especially with regard to upgrading from XP to Windows 7 which turned out to be a nightmare getting back to where I was with my old machine. Guidance on getting printers/scanners/phones etc. to talk to W7 non-existent.
Not enough USB ports. 4 on a machine like this is just not enough. Had to install an additional USB card.
Very few ports on motherboard for upgrades.

I got this for my husband because he only surfs the web and does e-mail and that's the extent of his computer knowledge. I was a little skeptical about onboard video and audio, but for his needs, its more than adequate. I thought about adding a video card, but after seeing the picture quality, decided it was not necessary. He's happy and I'm happy!! Good purchase.

A GOOD DEAL BUT......................

Product Uses:
work, home, entertainment, talk dirty to it

Review:
For the money, you can't beat it. hands down, Dell still has the best deals going. I have a 10 year old desktop that I bought from Dell and it is still working fine, just a little "out-moded" for today's demands. Hence the new computer.
I also have a dell laptop that works very well.
The only problem thus far is a design flaw that I am going to have to live with.
It concerns the front loading memory card reader. it is set too far back and my average sized hands and fingers have a real tough time grabbing the card to remove it. It is a royal pain in the butt, but not a deal breaker.
